Insights & Buying Guides

MDF board in India costs roughly ₹20 to ₹150 per sq ft, rising with thickness and grade, though prices do not climb in a straight line as sheets get thicker. Northern mills using local poplar usually quote lower than southern suppliers that bring in fibre.

6mm BWP plywood starts at around ₹55-85 per sq ft, with premium segments costing more. Made to IS 710 with phenolic resin, it survives boiling water tests yet weighs only about 20-25 kg per 8x4 ft sheet, balancing lightness with rigidity.

12mm BWP plywood typically costs ₹80-140 per sq ft in India, which works out to roughly ₹2,500-4,500 for a standard 8x4 ft sheet depending on brand and city. It suits load-bearing shelves and wardrobe backs in damp areas where 18mm would add needless weight.

A 12mm BWR plywood sheet typically costs ₹50-100 per sq ft, roughly ₹1,600-3,200 for a standard 8x4 ft board, depending on core, brand and city. BWR is bonded with phenolic resin and tested under IS 303 for semi-exposed interior work.

Branded 12mm MR plywood costs about ₹60-90 per sq ft in India in October 2026, or ₹1,920-2,880 for an 8x4 sheet, with online listings near ₹2,350-3,100 including GST and commercial sheets lower. It suits shelves, partitions and drawer parts in dry rooms; choose BWR or BWP near water.

9mm BWP plywood is an 8x4 ft boiling water proof sheet made with phenolic glue to IS 303 (BWP grade) or IS 710 (marine), so it passes a 72-hour boil test. See what drives its price across India, the best uses, installation tips and how to spot fake BWP.

9mm BWR plywood is a phenolic-bonded, IS 303 grade sheet that balances rigidity, weight and cost, which makes it a common pick for furniture framing and paneling in humid Indian homes. Its price varies by brand, core and city, so compare quotes per 8x4 sheet.

9mm MR plywood is an IS 303 moisture resistant sheet bonded with urea-formaldehyde, sitting between 6mm paneling ply and 12mm structural ply. It suits back panels, partitions and light furniture in dry rooms, but should not be used where water contact is likely.

6mm BWR plywood is boiling water resistant ply tested to survive up to 8 hours of boiling without delaminating, sold in 8 ft x 4 ft sheets that actually measure about 5.2-5.8mm. Prices vary by brand and core, so compare per sq ft rates with MR and HDHMR.
