Insights & Buying Guides

25mm MR plywood costs roughly ₹65-110 per sq ft in India, or about ₹2,100-3,500 a sheet, and its 13-15 veneer build suits load-bearing furniture in dry interiors where thinner sheets would sag. Compare regional rates, handling tips and 25mm vs 19mm.

India has no government-published plywood price index like those for steel or cement, so buyers rely on an informal benchmark built from dealer quotes, manufacturer price announcements and trade platforms. Tracking it by grade and region helps time purchases.

An 8x4 ft plywood sheet is 32 sq ft, so its price is the per sq ft rate times 32. In October 2026, an 18-19mm sheet cost about ₹1,440-4,160 for MR, ₹1,440-5,120 for BWR and ₹2,500-5,600 for BWP or marine, local to branded; CenturyPly's Club Prime works out to ₹5,472 a sheet at its ₹171 MRP.

Plywood is sold per sq ft in India. In October 2026, 18-19mm MR cost about ₹45-130, BWR ₹45-160 and BWP or marine ₹78-175 per sq ft, local to branded, and a 6mm sheet costs roughly half the 18-19mm rate. CenturyPly lists Sainik 710 at ₹122 per sq ft including GST.

Premium plywood in India usually means a national brand's top series in BWP or marine grade. In October 2026, branded 18-19mm BWP or marine cost about ₹120-175 per sq ft: CenturyPly lists Club Prime at ₹171 including GST and Greenply's guide puts 19mm Gold near ₹134. You pay for warranty, treatment and consistency, not a tougher water test.

The cheapest plywood in India is usually MR (commercial) grade, because its urea-formaldehyde glue costs far less than the phenolic resins in BWR or BWP and its cores use lower-density woods. See where it sells cheapest, wholesale vs retail gaps and when the low price backfires.

Fire retardant plywood costs more than regular plywood because its chemical treatment makes it form a protective char layer that slows flame spread and cuts smoke. Price depends on thickness, glue grade, certification and region.

Birch plywood in India is mostly imported from the Baltic region, Russia or Finland, so it costs well above local eucalyptus or poplar ply, with typical sheet prices around ₹3,200 to ₹7,000. Its all-birch veneers leave fewer voids and hold screws better.

Commercial plywood is MR grade plywood made to IS 303 with urea-formaldehyde glue, the low-cost choice for wardrobes, partitions and furniture in dry rooms. It handles moderate humidity but delaminates with prolonged water exposure, and price rises with thickness.
