Austin also makes blockboard, flush doors to IS 2202 (Part 1) in 30-40mm, and WPC boards. On its home page it claims BWP plywood that resists boiling water for up to 200 hours; for reference, IS 710 sets a 72-hour boiling test.
What the warranty percentages mean
Austin markets warranties as percentages, such as "lifetime 750%" for Platinum Plus. The product listing does not spell out on the same page what the percentage is applied to or what counts as a covered defect. Before you pay a premium for it, ask the dealer for the full warranty terms in writing, how a claim is valued, and whether registration is required. BS 1088 vs IS 710: is the premium worth it?
BS 1088 is the British marine plywood standard, and IS 710 is India's. Both are built for prolonged wet exposure. For a home kitchen or bathroom, an IS 710 sheet such as Austin Gold already covers the risk; BS 1088 matters more for boats and exterior work where the sheet stays wet. How to check you are buying genuine Austin plywood
- Read the sheet marking. Every plywood sheet sold in India must carry the ISI mark with a CM/L licence number (CM/L followed by 10 digits) and the standard it is made to: IS 303 for MR, BWR and BWP grades, IS 710 for marine, IS 10701 for structural and IS 5509 for fire-retardant plywood. - Verify the licence. Enter the CM/L number in the BIS Care app (Verify Licence Details) or on the BIS website. The licence holder should match the brand or its contract maker, and the standard should match the grade on your quote. See how to check the ISI mark on plywood.
- Get it on the invoice. Ask for a GST invoice that names the series, grade and thickness. A quote that says only "18mm waterproof" cannot be held to anything later.
- Ask for the warranty card and the full terms behind the percentage figures before you place the order.
What moved plywood prices in 2026
Resin chemicals drove most of the change this year. Phenol and formaldehyde, the raw materials for BWR and BWP glue, rose sharply in March and April 2026, and the large brands passed it on: CenturyPly raised plywood prices by about 7% in April and Greenply by about 4-5%. MDF makers announced increases of around 15% from April, but most of those were rolled back by August. GST on plywood stays at 18%, unchanged by the September 2025 rate changes.
