Who makes Sharon plywood

Sharon plywood is made by SharonPly, which says it started production in 1987 at Gummidipoondi, near Chennai.

The company's history page lists a launch timeline: SharonGold in 1988, SharonPlatinumPly, flush doors, block boards and film face shuttering ply in 1990, SharonVeneer in 2006, the Sovereign value range in 2007, SharonPrelam in 2011, SharonPrima in 2014 and a particle board line in 2016. It records Sovereign 710 waterproof plywood arriving in 2019, an FSC chain of custody certificate in 2021 and an IS 5509 licence in 2022. The same page describes the plant as using a solar-paneled captive power unit and moving from double to triple to quadruple pressing between 2017 and 2018.

Sharon is a South India brand by dealer footprint: its dealer page lists outlets in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Puducherry, so check local availability before you plan a project around it.

Sharon plywood ranges and grades explained

Sharon sorts its plywood into premium, marine and waterproof, general purpose and project ranges, and the grade printed on the sheet matters more than the range name.

Sharon Platinum Ply and Sharon GOLD

These are the two ranges whose pages carry the most detail. Sharon's Platinum Ply page is headed "ISI Certified Plywood" and lists IS 710 and a boiling water proof grade, a CARB certificate, ASTM E84 fire conformity, a termite test certificate from CENTEC and a lifetime warranty with a "4 Times Money Back Promise". Its stated density is about 750 kg/m3.

The Sharon GOLD page is titled marine grade plywood, lists IS 710 with ISI certification, says it is treated with preservatives (Kyoto Pro-Tech plus an ACC treatment on finished panels) and says it is also available as block board. Its stated density is about 700 kg/m3, and the warranty is 30 years against borers and termites from inside. For the grade difference, read BWP vs marine plywood and marine plywood price in India before you specify either.

Sovereign 710 and Sovereign MR

Sovereign is Sharon's value series, launched in 2007. The Sovereign 710 page describes boiling water proof marine grade plywood bonded with phenol formaldehyde resin, with a 10-year warranty against borers and termites and a stated density of about 680 kg/m3. That page does not print an Indian Standard number or an ISI claim, although the marketplace listing below calls it IS 710 marine grade; ask the dealer which licence covers the sheets you are buying and get the CM/L number.

Sovereign MR is described as water resistant plywood for small and medium projects, with a 5-year warranty and a stated density of about 500 kg/m3. Its page prints no standard number either.

Sharon Gold MR

Gold MR is the moisture resistant, general purpose grade. Its feature text says it conforms to IS 303 and carries a 5-year warranty against borers and termites. The page describes the resin in two different ways (melamine urea formaldehyde in the body text, melamine formaldehyde in the feature block), so ask for the written specification of the batch. The MR vs BWR vs BWP guide explains where MR is and is not suitable.

Project and OEM ranges

Sovereign Film Face Shuttering Ply is for concrete formwork, not furniture. Sharon Prima Armor Ply and KUMKI OEM BWP Plywood appear in the product menu; their specifications were not checked for this page, so confirm grade and thickness with the dealer.

A note on emission claims: IS 303 defines E1 and E2 classes only. Sharon's pages say E0 emission compliant and CARB certified, which are brand and international claims rather than BIS classes, so ask for the test report if the board is going into a bedroom or nursery.

Published specifications side by side

Sharon prints the same set of strength figures on each range page, which lets you compare ranges on its own numbers.

RangeDensity (approx.)Nail holdingScrew holdingStandard namedWarranty marked with asterisk
Sharon Platinum Ply750 kg/m3Above 1500 NAbove 2750 NIS 710, ISI; IS 5509:2000 testsLifetime, 4x money back
Sharon GOLD700 kg/m3Above 1500 NAbove 2750 NIS 710, ISI; IS 5509:2000 tests30 years
Sovereign 710680 kg/m3Above 1500 NAbove 2750 NNot printed10 years
Sharon Gold MR700 kg/m3Above 600 NAbove 2000 NIS 3035 years
Sovereign MR500 kg/m3Above 700 NAbove 1600 NNot printed5 years

These are Sharon's own published figures, not independent test results. Moisture content is stated as 5-15 per cent on every page, which matches the range in IS 303.

Sharon plywood price in November 2026

SharonPly does not publish prices on its website; the product pages offer an enquiry form, WhatsApp and a call option, so your price comes from a dealer.

The only dated rates found were two listings on the Aajjo marketplace from one Hyderabad supplier, seen on 3 November 2026. Neither listing states thickness, GST or transport, and neither shows a listing date, so treat them as a pair of data points and not a market average. Hyderabad is in Telangana, one of the states on Sharon's dealer page.

Product as listedRate shownPer 8x4 sheet (PlyPrice estimate, rate multiplied by 32)Source type and cityNot stated
Sharon Sovereign, listed as Sovereign 710 waterproof ply, marine grade, 8x4₹110 per sq ftAbout ₹3,520Marketplace listing, Hyderabad, seen 3 November 2026Thickness, GST, transport
SharonGOLD marine plywood, 8x4₹145 per sq ftAbout ₹4,640Marketplace listing, Hyderabad, seen 3 November 2026Thickness, GST, transport

For context, PlyPrice's verified 2026 bands for 18-19mm marine and waterproof plywood are ₹78-113 per sq ft for local or unbranded ISI board and ₹120-175 per sq ft for branded board. The ₹145 GOLD rate sits inside the branded band; the ₹110 Sovereign rate sits inside the lower band. For 18-19mm MR, the bands are ₹45-80 and ₹85-130 per sq ft. The Sharon MR ranges had no dated listing that could be verified, so use those bands as your starting point. Thinner and thicker sheets move the rate: use the plywood sheet price guide to convert between sheet and per sq ft rates.

How Sharon compares with generic alternatives

Against unbranded ISI plywood, Sharon's case rests on named grades, published warranties and a verification app; against national brands, it rests on regional dealer presence.

  • Versus unbranded ISI board: Sharon publishes a grade, a warranty and a strength table for each range, which a local unbranded sheet may not. The Hyderabad GOLD listing rate falls inside the branded band for marine and waterproof board.
  • Versus national brands: national brands may publish a single price. For example, CenturyPly Club Prime is listed at ₹171 per sq ft including GST on its e-shop (October 2026). Sharon publishes no equivalent, so compare on a written, delivered quote.
  • Warranty terms: Sharon's warranties carry an asterisk with no conditions printed. Ask for the warranty card and read the claim process before paying; the plywood warranty guide explains what lifetime and long-term cover usually excludes.

The decision comes down to the grade you need, the delivered price in your city and who will honour a claim locally. A cheaper sheet from a distant brand is not cheaper if the dealer is 400 km away.

Where Sharon plywood is sold and why region matters

Sharon sells through dealers, and its dealer page lists them mainly in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Puducherry.

The dealer page shows city pages for Chennai, Coimbatore, Erode, Madurai, Pondicherry, Salem, Tirunelveli, Trichy and Vellore, and lists dealers in Andhra Pradesh towns such as Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Guntur and Nellore, and in Hyderabad and Warangal. The page says dealers are spread across India, but the listed entries cluster in the South.

Regional availability matters for plywood for three reasons. Freight on 8x4 sheets is charged by weight and distance, so a sheet made in the same region usually lands cheaper than one trucked in from another state. Coastal Tamil Nadu, Andhra and Puducherry have high humidity through the year and heavy north-east monsoon rain from October to December, so a grade that survives a damp kitchen or a bathroom-adjacent wardrobe is not a luxury. And a warranty claim is only as useful as the dealer who handles it.

How to buy and verify Sharon plywood

Verify the grade, the licence and the sheet before you pay, in this order.

  1. Fix the grade first. Choose MR for dry interiors, BWR or BWP for kitchens, bathrooms and coastal homes, and marine under IS 710 only where you need that standard. See MR vs BWR vs BWP plywood.
  2. Ask for the ISI mark and the CM/L number. The licence format is "CM/L-" followed by 10 digits. Sharon's pages checked for this guide show ISI claims for Platinum Ply and GOLD but do not print a licence number, so get it from the dealer or the sheet and check it in the BIS Care app (Verify Licence Details) or on Manak Online. Step-by-step: how to check the ISI mark and CM/L number.
  3. Use Sharon's own check. Sharon's product pages mention the Sharon Secure app for verifying authenticity; the app is listed on the App Store and Google Play from the brand's site.
  4. Insist on an invoice that names the brand, the range, the grade, the thickness and the number of sheets, plus the warranty card.
  5. Inspect edges and core. Look for even, tightly bonded veneer layers, no gaps or overlaps, and consistent thickness across the sheet. The fake plywood checklist covers the physical checks.
  6. Get a delivered, written price stating GST at 18 per cent, cutting charges and transport.
  7. Find a dealer on Sharon's dealer page and confirm availability of your thickness before you commit.

Is Sharon plywood good? A specification review

On its published pages, Sharon offers clear grade names, IS 710 and ISI claims on its top two ranges, strength tables and long warranties; what it does not publish is price, thickness and sheet sizes, or the conditions behind its warranties.

What works in its favour: a 1987 production history, separate ranges for marine, waterproof, MR and shuttering use, fire test results against IS 5509:2000 on two ranges and an app-based authenticity check. What to watch: pages that describe the same product in slightly different words (for example, Sharon GOLD is titled marine plywood while its standard line reads as boiling water proof grade), a Sovereign 710 page with no standard number, and a Sovereign MR page whose feature labels refer to another range. None of this means a poor product; it means you should ask for the written specification of the exact range, thickness and batch.
