Wimco plywood price: what we found (checked 15 October 2026)
Short answer: We found no current plywood product sold under the Wimco name. Wimco Ltd was founded in 1923 as the Western India Match Company and is known mainly for safety matches; company profiles mention a move into fibre boards in 1995, but no plywood brand. If you were quoted "Wimco plywood", check who made the sheet and verify its ISI licence before you compare the price.
How to check an unfamiliar plywood brand
- Find the manufacturer's name and address on the sheet or label.
- Verify the CM/L licence in the BIS Care app (Verify Licence Details). The record shows the real maker and the standard. See how to check the ISI mark on plywood.
- Match the grade to the standard: commercial and MR plywood should say IS 303 MR.
- Get a GST invoice with brand, grade and thickness.
Budget plywood: what a fair price looks like in 2026
If what you need is low-cost plywood for dry interiors, compare against these verified price points rather than a brand name:
| Option | Grade | Price signal |
|---|---|---|
| Local or unbranded commercial ply, 18mm | MR | about ₹45-80 per sq ft (2026 market range) |
| Greenply MR 303 | MR (IS 303) | from ₹45 per sq ft, thinnest sheet, excl. tax (brand page) |
| CenturyPly Sainik MR, 18-19mm | MR | about ₹88-97 per sq ft (dealer listings, Oct 2026) |
| Kitply Vista MR, 18-19mm | MR | about ₹73-98 per sq ft (dealer listings, Oct 2026) |
When budget MR plywood is fine, and when it is not
MR (commercial) plywood is bonded with urea formaldehyde and is built for indoor humidity, not for water contact. It works for wardrobes, beds, TV units and study tables in dry rooms. Do not use it for sink units, bathroom vanities or walls that get damp; step up to BWR or BWP there. See our budget plywood guide, what MR plywood is and commercial plywood prices.
What moved plywood prices in 2026
Resin chemicals drove most of the change this year. Phenol and formaldehyde, the raw materials for BWR and BWP glue, rose sharply in March and April 2026, and the large brands passed it on: CenturyPly raised plywood prices by about 7% in April and Greenply by about 4-5%. MDF makers announced increases of around 15% from April, but most of those were rolled back by August. GST on plywood stays at 18%, unchanged by the September 2025 rate changes.
