Sunmica is a brand name, but Indian buyers, carpenters and dealers use it as a generic word for any decorative laminate sheet, which is why dealer listings carry titles such as "Sunmica Greenlam" or "Sunmica Virgo". On this page, sunmica and laminate mean the same product: a thin decorative high pressure laminate (HPL) sheet glued onto plywood, MDF or particle board. Five things set the price: thickness, collection and finish code, brand, sheet size, and what the quote includes.

Thickness

1 mm costs more than 0.8 mm, and liners cost the least. One Ahmedabad listing offered a 1 mm sheet labelled "B grade" at ₹390, so ask what grade a cheap sheet is before comparing it with first-grade stock.

Collection and finish code

Within one brand and one thickness, the collection changes the price. How to buy and verify laminate sheets

Check the standard, licence, thickness, batch and paperwork before the carpenter cuts a sheet, because a glued sheet cannot be swapped.

Know the standard. IS 2046 is the Indian Standard for decorative laminated sheets. BIS has revised it into an eight-part series identical to ISO 4586, and a BIS circular dated 24 February 2026 extends the concurrent running of the old IS 2046:1995 and the new parts to 24 March 2027, so a licence or test report may cite either edition until then.
Check the ISI licence. If the sheet or its pack carries the ISI mark, note the licence number (CM/L- followed by 10 digits) and verify it in the BIS Care app (Verify Licence Details) or on Manak Online (Status of Licence). The licence record should match the manufacturer and IS 2046. The steps are the same as for checking the ISI mark on plywood.
Ask for the test report for your collection. IS 2046 (Part 2) sets test methods for properties such as surface wear, scratch, impact, staining, heat, water and light resistance, dimensional stability and formability. Ask for results that cover the collection you are buying.
